STILL IN THE HUNT FOR AN OLYMPIC STANDARD, SIMONE PLOURDE WILL RACE AT LA CLASSIQUE IN MONTRÉAL

Montreal, June 3, 2024 – Despite a good start to the season, Simone Plourde is still in the hunt of an Olympic standard in the 1500 meters.

The Saint-Laurent Sélect athlete, who currently trains with the Nike Union group in Portland, Oregon, confirmed over the weekend that she would be at La Classique, either in the 1500 meters or the 1000 meters.

Although she has managed so far to improve her personal bests to 4:05.92 sec in the 1500 meters and 15:13.57 in the 5000 meters, it is in the 1500 meters that she believes she has the best chance of qualifying for the Paris Games.

With the automatic Olympic standard being 4:02.50 and the event having a quota of 45 athletes for the Olympic Games, Simone is currently ranked 39th for the quota based on a maximum of three athletes per country.

Her next races will therefore be decisive for her ranking. Unless she achieves the Olympic standard in Portland on June 8, she will have to complete a few races in order to maintain or improve her ranking to remain eligible for the 45 athletes quota.

Depending on the results in Portland, Simone will then determine between the 1500 meters or the 1000 meters at La Classique. Regardless of her choice, athletics fans from Montreal and Québec will welcome with open arms on her road to Paris.

Only 18 days before La Classique. We will have a great night of athletics.
