Montréal, May 7 2024 - Back from a fabulous weekend at the World Athletics Relays, Québec sprinter Aiyanna Stiverne, winner of a bronze medal in the 4 x 400m relay in Nassau, will be in the blocks for the Elite 200m at La Classique d'athlétisme de Montréal on June 21.
Stiverne ran two very good relay legs in the Bahamas. Saturday, in the first round, she completed her relay leg in 51.33 sec, helping secure Canada's olympic qualification. In Sunday's final, she repeated with another fast time of 51.59 sec to help Canada step on the podium with a bronze medal performance.
Still in the hunt for an individual olympic selection in the 400 metres, Aiyanna will run the Elite 200m at La Classique thus completing her preparation for the Bell Olympic Trials on the next weekend.
The battle for individual qualification will be very tight. We can already confirm that Canada's reigning national champion Grace Konrad will run 400 metres at La Classique. Konrad was part of the Canadian 4 x 400m relay at the World Athletics championships last August in Budapest but was not in Nassau last weekend.
Now only 46 days counting to La Classique, track and field fever is getting stronger than ever on Québec soil.
